BODEM
A sound for the future. The Belgian jazz scene is full of new talents who keep enriching the Belgian jazz scene again and again. One of the most exciting new names in Belgium is Bodem, the trio of saxophone player Adia Vanheerentals, who was part of De Twintigers in 2024, Klara’s selection of young musicians to keep an eye on. With Bodem, she focusses on lyrical melodies and fresh, collective interaction.
Bodem’s debut album Kleine mars was a strong calling card. Released by Nicolas Rombouts and his label MOKUHI Sonorities, it presented a charming combination of intimacy and energy. No smoky bars for Bodem, but summer vibes and pink candy. The album was picked up by Belgian national radio stations Radio 1 and Klara, which seemed to love Adia’s innovative compositions. The trio found itself stretched between the moody Scandinavian scene and more hefty sounds of Chicago.
Adia surrounds herself with the talented musicians she met at the conservatory in Antwerp: drummer Anke Verslype and guitar player Willem Malfliet. Verslype impresses with the softly overwhelming aki, while Malfliet floats between pop and jazz with his band WOOLVS. They are the ideal companions to perform Adia’s short, but ever so creative compositions.
The second album by Bodem is set to be released on the 21st of February by MOKUHI Sonorities. In 2025, the band is going on a tour throughout Flanders, in collaboration with Jazzlab.
